Irony. Perhaps the most misquoted and least understood word in the English language, which may in fact be an irony unto itself. When we see it, we laugh because we all appreciate the humor that irony can bring. Well, one teenager has outdone himself when it comes to winning the trophy of most ironically dressed. At a costume party, the clever boy came dressed as something everyone knew too well. He was an instant hit and everyone appreciated his look. The costume? He was a breathalizer machine, reports a New York Criminal Lawyer. Dear reader, you can imagine what happened next. Yes, the boy was pulled over late at night by a police officer and it was then that the boy also failed a breathalizer test. Yes, the breathalizer boy was driving drunk! The irony of it all!

In fact, the boy blew more than twice the state’s legal limit, said a New York Criminal Lawyer. And, to make matters worse, he was not legally old enough to even drink. A search of his vehicle revealed an open container of beer and another open container of vodka, noted a New York Criminal Lawyer. Apparently the police officer did not appreciate the irony of the situation and booked the boy on driving under the influence and of driving with an open container and of driving while intoxicated while being a minor, said a New York Criminal Lawyer.

Incredibly, this is not the first time this has happened. Last year a man in Ohio fell to the same fate.

The tapes may have shown acts of violence not normally imagined carried out by people in the name of the United States of America, said a New York Criminal Lawyer. They could have shown torture – violent, disturbing beatings and near drowning episodes. At the height of the Iraq War, the controversy over whether torture was being used by United States operatives became front page news. And then there was news that some of the interrogations had been video taped, reports a New York Criminal Lawyer. It was thought to be a smoking gun – the absolute proof that torture was being carried out against international law protocols.

For three years, three long years, federal authorities investigated night and day to determine exactly what happened. The tapes were thought to be key, said a New York Criminal Lawyer. And then they were destroyed. Gone forever. Their contents just a whisper in the wind. Attorneys for the United States of America then had to determine whether or not they should prosecute those who destroyed the tapes, said a New York Criminal Lawyer. Of key importance was the fact that apparently those that acted did so on the advice of counsel. Attorneys believed the men who said they believed their actions were not unlawful, reports a New York Criminal Lawyer. Emails released via a Freedom of Information Act request revealed that the men who destroyed the tapes knew they would be in trouble but that they believed if the tapes ever got out that far more trouble would occur.

Having intelligent counsel can often mean the difference between jail and freedom. If you’ve been charged with a crime contact a New York Criminal Attorney today.

If the nation thought Arizona was the frontline of the debate on illegal immigration it ain’t seen nothing yet. Emboldened by gains in the recent elections, conservative lawmakers in the Austin, Texas state legislature are preparing to introduce new laws regulating illegal immigration in the state, said a New York Criminal Lawyer. The Texas law would mimic that of the one passed last year in Arizona. That Arizona law is currently undergoing many challenges from the Obama Administration and will likely end up being heard before the United States of America’s Supreme Court, noted a New York Criminal Lawyer. How that court rules could have a staggering and drastic effect on immigration in the United States of America.

But Texas, a state known not to be messed with, isn’t stopping there. It also seeks to introduce a bill that would create a law mandating that one present a photo ID when voting, said a New York Criminal Lawyer. Currently, laws throughout the United States require a photo ID to buy cough medicine, rent video tapes, and other simple measures, but to vote? So far, no law requires such an ID in Texas. The new law may change that. And a challenge in the Supreme Court is likely to follow, notes a New York Criminal Lawyer.

And that’s not all. The Texas legislature will also seek to ban a new drug: K2, reports a New York Criminal Lawyer. K2 is a new street drug that gives a marijuana like high and is considered highly addictive according to addiction specialists. The law would make possession of K2 a felony punishable by up to two years in prison, said a New York Criminal Lawyer. Whether this will be passed is anyone’s guess and its potential effectiveness will be determined in the years to come.

Ex New York Yankee Jim Leyritz continued to deal with the numerous questions surrounding his driving under the influence of alcohol arrest in court, said a New York Criminal Lawyer. This time, the questions are more legally technical than they were glamorous and fancy but they were also incredibly important. Defense attorneys argued with prosecutors and the judge that an expert’s testimony, in which a prosecutor found toxicology expert, was going to reveal the blood alcohol level of Leyritz, noted a New York Criminal Lawyer. The evidence of the former star pitcher’s blood alcohol level was to be suppressed by judicial order. The judges reasoning was quite clear and legal: the blood alcohol level was calculated using improper evidence, said a New York Criminal Lawyer. One of Leyrtiz’s blood alcohol tests had been deemed off limits and when the expert attempted to recount to the jury the level contained in the test the judge stopped him and told the jury to ignore what the expert had just said.

The expert tried to argue to the jury that Leyrtiz’s blood alcohol level was nearly twice the legal limit, said a New York Criminal Lawyer. Defense attorney’s countered that if this was the case many more symptoms would be present, including but not limited to: staggering, slurred speech, and double vision. None of those symptoms were present in the pitcher when he was pulled over by the cops, noted a New York Criminal Lawyer.

The judge admonished all the attorneys at different times and all of the fighting appeared to take a toll on the Leyritz.

There are people in the world that do horrible things every day. Some do them because they were abused as children. Some do them because they are true sociopaths who just don’t know any better. As a society we try to understand aberrant behavior. Understanding leads to transformation and a better world. But then there are some who commit acts that we just don’t understand. A grandmother, a mother, a father, and an innocent child are at the center of a sad, sad case. The plan: sell the baby on the black market. Get as much money as possible, don’t care who “owns” the child, just get the money and run, said a New York Criminal Lawyer. It was and truly is modern day slavery. Maybe even more disturbing was the fact that the parents, the mother and father the world entrusted with the safety of the child, liked the idea so much they planned to have more children for the sole reason of selling them. They wanted to be a manufacturing plant.

But, not all horrible stories have horrible endings. In a twist of fate, the grandmother turned to her other daughter to “adopt” the child, noted a New York Criminal Lawyer. The grandmother had given the daughter up for adoption (ironically enough) 20 plus years ago. They had reconnected and the grandmother mentioned giving the child up for adoption, said a New York Criminal Lawyer. The daughter was excited until the floor dropped out: the grandmother wanted seventy five thousand dollars for the child. That’s when she contact the authorities who set up a sting and caught the terrible trio in the act, reports a New York Criminal Lawyer. The child is now safe.

Even those who have committed terrible crimes have rights that deserve protection. If you’ve been accused of a crime contact a New York Criminal Attorney today

For twenty years he had awoken every day, put his pants on one leg at a time, had his breakfast like any other person, and went to work. And for those twenty years he did one thing about as well as any one else: he made money. Oh, did he make money. He took a company worthy eleven billion dollars and increased its worth to an astronomical four hundred and ninety one million dollars! And along the way he made himself wealthy, earning north of forty million dollars every year, which made him one of the highest paid CEOs on earth, said a New York Criminal Lawyer. But along the way something happened, either he was greedy or the prosecutors were looking for a high profile collar, either way he ended up indicted of a complex scheme involving stock options and fraud. Ultimately, he was found not-guilty of most of the charges but was convicted of lying. Lying about backdating stock options, reports a New York Criminal Lawyer.

As a result of this conviction he will serve time – easy time though, as he’ll only be confined to his home for a number of months, pay a million dollar fine, and then be free, said a New York Criminal Lawyer. The probation officer in the case recommended the light sentence, which upset prosecutors, and one which the judge ultimately followed, noted a New York Criminal Lawyer. All involved noted it was difficult to determine exactly what damages had occurred with the phrase, “victimless crime” being bandied about.

White collar crimes are still crimes and a skilled New York Criminal Attorney can help keep you out of jail. If you’ve been accused of a white collar crime contact a New York Criminal Attorney today.

Every day they woke at the break of dawn and put on their perfectly pressed uniforms. They stood at attention when it was demanded of them. They learned to kill while not giving up their humanity. They were nothing but masses of flesh at first but slowly became the best a man could be. Marines. The top of the United States of America’s military machine. The first to arrive, the last to leave. Defenders of country and freedom, the world over. Men of duty and honor.

And that’s why it is all the more sad that three retired Marines have been arrested for selling high grade weapons and gun to L.A. gangs, said a New York Criminal Lawyer. This comes on the heels of reports that state a former Navy Seal in San Diego was charged with smuggling guns from Iraq to the streets of America. Weapons used in the war on terror, noted a New York Criminal Lawyer. Weapons of defense. Weapons paid for by the men and women of America. Weapons trusted to those charged with defending our freedom. And now weapons brought stateside to hunt down and kill American civilians are part of ridiculous gang wars, reports a New York Criminal Lawyer.

All of the men charged deny the charges, with one man claiming to be nothing more than a gun collector, said a New York Criminal Lawyer. The sting operation was carried out by the ATF and caught the men dead to rights with the guns in hand as they sold them to gang members.

Lindsay Lohan has had a very public life. Her ups and downs are well catalogued in the press. Her life’s time line is nothing more than a series of newspaper clippings, each one showing a further slide into madness. What’s sad is that her life demonstrates that in our celebrity obsessed culture one celebrity’s parents can easily make news. Michael Lohan, the infamous father of the infamous starlet, had made the news, this time for having failed to pay child support (not to Lindsay, but to another child he has by a different woman), reports a New York Criminal Lawyer. There will likely be no pity paid to the man; after all, he and Linday’s mother are directly responsible for pushing their daughter into a dark world of drugs, fame, obsession, and decline. That he and the mother seem to crave the spotlight as much as their daughter should be no surprise.

And a New York judge didn’t care one bit. The judge told Michael Lohan point blank: pay your child support or your going back to jail, noted a New York Criminal Lawyer. Lohan’s defense is questionable. Claims the famed father, he was on parole when the Montana based woman declared him the father, and because he was on parole he never had the opportunity to challenge the results, said a New York Criminal Lawyer. He then states that he was late on paying support most recently because of financial troubles? Kidnapping? No. Because of the November 2nd elections, said a New York Criminal Lawyer.

Failure to pay child support can result in jail time and a New York Criminal Attorney can help. If you find yourself behind on child support call today.

A former movie star and current TV star, one married to a former Miss America winner, has been charged with a crime. Police have charged him with fleeing the scene of an accident, a misdemeanor offense, said a New York Criminal Lawyer. The man had been driving along that day like it was any other day. Nice, sunny, pleasant, the kind of day that takes away one’s cares and worries. The kind of day that one would never suspect would lead to an arrest by the police. Then it happened, a sudden, violent, world changing event. The actor rammed his car, likely on accident, into the back of another car, noted a New York Criminal Lawyer. It must be said that it is likely but uncertain because the actor left the scene of the accident before the police could arrive to determine exactly what had happened.

The actor says it was all an innocent misunderstanding, said a New York Criminal Lawyer. He says that he exchanged insurance information with the other driver and had been patiently waiting for several minutes when he felt that the police officers were never going to show up, noted a New York Criminal Lawyer. Feeling that he’d done nothing wrong the man then left and went home. But, because he ran away, because he didn’t wait, because he refused to let the police investigate what happened, everything is now up in the air, reports a New York Criminal Lawyer. No one knows if he had been drinking, if he did this on purpose, or any of the circumstances surrounding the event.

Even minor car accidents can lead to police involvement and you have rights that need to be protected. Contact a New York Criminal Attorney today if you find yourself having to deal with the police.

DUI, DWI, what’s the difference? The question can be confusing to many and the answer varies from state to state. In general, DUI stands for “Driving Under the Influence” and DWI refers to “Driving While Intoxicated.” DUI is broader and encompasses driving while under the influence of drugs while DWI typically refers to driving while drunk, said a New York Criminal Lawyer. It should be noted that both terms are criminal terms. In Illinois, for example, one may have their license taken away while not having been convicted of a DUI. What happens is this: upon receiving one’s license, a driver agrees to undergo any field sobriety test ordered by a police officer. Failure to do so results in an automatic 12 month suspension of one’s license. However, this is NOT a criminal conviction, said a New York Criminal Lawyer. It does not go on one’s record and thus does not negatively impact a person’s life to the same degree. A DUI or DWI however is a criminal offense and is permanent and can impact one’s future to a great degree, reports a New York Criminal Lawyer. This is why it is recommended that a person refuse to take a field sobriety test. While one may lose their license they also make it much more difficult for the state to convict them of a DUI or DWI.

Sticking with traffic related offenses, pulling out of the way of an emergency vehicle is required in many states, said a New York Criminal Lawyer. The general practice is to move to the right but moving to the left is permitted if the driver feels that is safer.

DUI and DWI are serious charges and need prompt legal attention. If you’ve been charged with either you should contact a New York Criminal Attorney today.
