Ron Jon Surf Shop is a veritable empire of marketing and branding in the world of surfing. It is one of the most recognizable names in the history of the sport. It’s founder, Ron DiMenna, may be getting old but apparently he still knows how to party, according to a New York Criminal Lawyer.
DiMenna, 73, was arrested and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol last December when police found a half empty can of the popular alcoholic energy drink Four Loko in his pickup truck during a traffic stop. Four Loko has attracted a lot of media attention recently, working its way up to the level of obsession for college students and party goers, alike.
One can of Four Loko apparently has the alcohol equivalent of six light beers and the caffeine equivalent of two strong cups of black coffee. It is a veritable party in 16 ounces, and not for the lightweight drinker. According to the New York Criminal Lawyer, Four Loko has already been banned on a number of college and University campuses and is becoming more difficult to find on store shelves.
The New York Criminal Lawyer also went on to say that the beverage seems to give those who consume it a false sense that they are okay to drive, which, police assert, is NOT actually true. Consuming Four Loko and getting behind the wheel of a motor vehicle is not only dangerous, but it is illegal in all fifty states. Ron DiMenna was booked and later released on $5500 bail, which no doubt was a great reason to celebrate. It is hopeful that at the age of 73, Ron Jon will learn from his mistakes and not celebrate in a way that could put other people at risk.
