The would-be bomber of Times Square, Faisal Shahzad, received a life sentence in prison for trying to detonate a car full of explosives, according to a New York Criminal Lawyer.
Shahzad’s comment to his sentencing was “Allahu Akbar” – Arabic for “God is great”. “Brace yourself because the war with the Muslims has only just begun,” he said to the judge right before sentencing. “The defeat of the US is imminent and will happen in the near future.”
Shahzad is a 31-year-old father of two and a naturalized American citizen who lived in Bridgeport, Connecticut, New York Criminal Lawyers have learned. He pleaded guilty in Manhattan federal court to 10 felonies, including international terrorism and attempting to use a weapon of mass destruction.
The judge asked Shahzad about the oath he took to become an American citizen. He responded: “I did swear, but I didn’t mean it.” “You appear to be someone who was capable of education and I do hope you will spend some of the time in prison thinking carefully about whether the Koran wants you to kill lots of people,” the judge said to Shahzad at one point. Shahzad claimed the Koran “gives us the right to defend. And that’s all I’m doing.”
“Had the bombing played out as Shahzad had so carefully planned, the lives of numerous residents and visitors of the city would have been lost and countless others would have been forever traumatized,” prosecutors told a New York Criminal Lawyer.
